Applications


Typical applications for polymer solar cells are low energy stand alone or networked products. Examples include sensor, RF-communication, consumer or RFID track and trace products. Also advertisement material, merchandise and toys are well suited for the current polymer solar cells due to less strict requirements to product life time.

 

The main advantages of polymer solar cells are:


  • Low weight (g/m2)
  • Low cost (Euros/W)
  • Flexible
  • Ease of integration
  • Custom sizes and voltages
     

The flexibility of the cells allows for curved product shapes and eases assembly of the cells into the product. Note that the cells are not designed to be bent over and over again, as this may lead to malfunction, but it is safe to bent them during integration.


The polymer solar cell manufacturing processes require only a small number of special tools, which makes custom designs possible. Feasibility calculations show that polymer solar cells are currently not very well suited for bulk energy productions as solar panels. This is expected to change in some years as new material technologies emerge.

 

Product ideas

At Mekoprint A/S, we produce a range of subassemblies or full products to our customers. We do not market our own products, so we have the ability to discuss openly with our customers about application possibilities for solar cells and assembly of the customers´ product. We are also open to integrate products with 3rd part solar cells.
